There is a markup and several important hearings focused on offshore drilling tomorrow in the House and Senate that we wanted to make sure you knew about.
-- Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee will consider (markup) the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act, S. 3516 to reform the management of energy and mineral resources on the outer continental shelf. June 30 at 9:30 am in Dirksen
-- House Subcommittee on Energy and Environment will hold a hearing entitled “Respond to the BP Oil Spill and to Prevent Future Oil Well Blowouts.” Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. in 2322 RHOB
-- House Natural Resources Committee will hold a hearing looking at state planning for offshore energy and the performance of MMS with Interior Secretary Ken Salazar and others. June 30 at 10 am in 1324 LHOB
-- Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation will hold a hearing entitled Deepwater Horizon tragedy, focusing on holding industry accountable. June 30 at 10 am in 253 Russell
As you can see, Wednesday is going to be hectic. Pew has several experts on the spill, the effect this disaster is having on marine life in the gulf and other aspects of offshore drilling including Marilyn Heiman. Marilyn testified last week on the need to reform the Outer Continental Shelf Reform Act before the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. If you’d like to talk to her or any of our other experts, or need anything else please let me know.
Hope this helps,
