"Shortly before midnight Wednesday, on a stretch of Fort Morgan shoreline near the Kiva Dunes resort, 73 loggerhead sea turtles emerged from a sandy nest and scurried into the moonlit surf.
With wildlife officials deeming in the last week that the northern Gulf of Mexico is now safe for sea turtles, the Kiva Dunes turtles became the first batch allowed this year to hatch on Alabama beaches and venture into their native waters.
